are there any amature competitions any time soon nearby?

um, well, the closest one I can think of that isn't big is Socal, and thats not til around January(I think)

It's not up yet. But it's a nice small contest, it will give you time to get alot better by then, plus there's ladder if you want to do that, and 1A and Y divisions. It was my first contest, its a really nice venue, and very fun. It's in Palm Springs. (about 6 hour drive west from scottsdale)
